One policy, three jobs
An indexed universal life (IUL) policy is permanent coverage with a cash value side. Here's what it can do for someone who works with their hands.
A lump sum after a covered heart attack, stroke or cancer
Living-benefit riders can let you take part of the death benefit early if a covered illness takes you off the job. Use it for the mortgage, the truck note or the bills while you recover.
Paid through accelerated death benefit riders, which reduce the death benefit. Availability and qualifying conditions vary by carrier and state.
A check to your family if you don't come home
Sized to clear the house, the vehicles and the debts, and to replace your income for the years they'd need it. The death benefit is generally income-tax-free to your beneficiaries.
Coverage amount and cost depend on age, health and underwriting.
Cash value you control, tied to a market index
Part of each payment can build cash value that grows tax-deferred. Index credits have a floor, so a down year in the index credits 0% instead of a loss. Later, you can borrow against it for a slow season, a new truck or retirement.
Not an investment. Caps and participation rates limit index credits, and policy charges still apply, so cash value can go down. Growth is not guaranteed. Loans reduce cash value and death benefit.

How it fits next to what you already have
A pension, a 401(k) or a policy through work is a good start. This sits next to it, in your name, and goes with you from job to job.
| Through the job | A policy in your name | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns it | The employer or the plan | You |
| Change jobs, get laid off, go out on your own | Group coverage usually ends when the job does | Stays with you as long as it's paid |
| Heart attack, stroke or cancer off the job | Workers' comp is for work injuries | Living-benefit riders can pay you a lump sum |
| Money you can reach before 59½ | Usually penalties and taxes | Policy loans against cash value |
General comparison only. Your union, plan or employer documents decide what your current benefits pay.

Straight answers
Is this a union, employer or government program?
No. This is private coverage from a licensed agent. It is not offered by, affiliated with or endorsed by any union, employer or government agency.
I already have a pension or a 401(k). Why would I want this?
Keep them. A pension or 401(k) is built for retirement, not for a heart attack at 48 or for your family if you don't come home, and coverage through the job usually ends when the job does. This sits next to what you have, in your own name.
My income goes up and down with the work. Does that matter?
An IUL has flexible premiums within limits, so many people set a base amount they can always cover and add more in good months. Michael will build it around your slow months, not your best ones. Paying too little for too long can cause a policy to lapse, so he'll show you the minimum that keeps it healthy.
Can I lose money?
The cash value isn't invested directly in the market. Index credits have a floor, often 0%, so a bad year in the index doesn't take away credited interest. But policy charges and the cost of coverage come out every month, so cash value can go down, especially in the early years or if the policy is underfunded. It works best as a long-term plan.
Is the money tax-free?
Cash value grows tax-deferred. Money taken out through policy loans is generally not taxed while the policy stays in force and is not a modified endowment contract (MEC). If a policy lapses with a loan, taxes can be due. Check your situation with a tax professional.
Do I need a medical exam?
It depends on your age, health and the amount of coverage. Some people qualify without an exam. Michael will tell you on the call.
What does it cost?
It depends on your age, health and how much you put in. That's why the form asks what you can set aside each month: the plan is built around that number, not the other way around.
What happens on the call?
Twenty minutes, at the time you pick. Michael asks about your budget, who you'd want protected and a few health basics, then shows you real options. If it isn't a fit, he'll say so. You'll get a text to confirm the time; reply YES so he knows you're coming.
Will you sell my information?
No. Your answers go only to Michael Mulea and his office so they can contact you about coverage. You can reply STOP to any text to opt out.
